Emma Watson: Growing Beyond Childhood Stardom

Who is Emma Watson?

Starting acting from a young age, Emma Watson established her own identity and voice throughout her career. Emma Watson was raised in England and is best known for her role as a young wizard, Hermoine Granger in the Harry Potter movies. Through these films, she began her career as an actress. She continuously proves her abilities as an actress starting in hit movies such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Women. Emma Watson also enjoyed working in the fashion and modeling industries. Her abilities didn’t stop there. She also became a powerful activist for women leaving her fans even more impressed.



Early Life

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born on April 15th, 1993. She was born in Paris, France but was raised in England. Her parents are Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson and has a little brother Alex who is three years younger. From the age of six, she wanted to become an actress. Her mom then enrolled her at the Stagecoach Theatre Arts school at Oxford where she studied singing, acting, and dancing. Her natural talent for acting appeared when she was seven years old when she won a poetry competition reciting a famous poem. She performed in numerous plays at the Stagecoach Theatre Arts school, showcasing her talent to everyone. Watson never had a professional acting gig prior to the Harry Potter series.


Hermoine Granger

Impressing her theatre teachers, Emma Watson was suggested to agents by them for the new film based on the best-selling Harry Potter series' first book. Watson had eight auditions when she was nine years old for the part that would later make her a worldwide star. Watson won over casting directors and the movie's producers to land the role of Hermione Granger. The author of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling knew that she was the perfect fit from the first audition. Her first debut was a huge hit. The movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was nominated for seven BAFTA Awards, three Academy Awards, and received critical acclaim, which helped Watson's position as a rising star. For the next ten years, Emma Watson spent her time filming the Harry Potter Series. Even though most of her time was dedicated to her character Hermoine Granger, this didn’t stop her from being committed to her education. She kept up with her lessons and scored high in all her subjects.


Education & Fashion

In 2005, with a photo shoot for Teen Vogue, Watson launched her modeling career and became the magazine's youngest cover model. Watson stated in 2009 that she was collaborating with fairtrade to support the clothing line People Tree. She was later selected to represent Burberry's autumn-winter 2009 collection, which raised her reputation in the modeling and fashion worlds. In 2010, Watson shocked her fans by drastically shortening her hair as a way of separating herself from her teen acting days in movies. She continued modeling despite her new hairstyle. She appeared in a commercial for Lancôme perfume while also being featured on the cover of Vogue in July 2011.

Watson continued to be dedicated to her education and enrolled at Brown University as a freshman. She desired an environment where she could experience some normalcy. Watson later took a gap year to work on the last Harry Potter movie. She then revealed that she would return to school to finish her degree. She graduated in 2014 with a degree in English. She was also made a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador in the same year.


Films

Emma Watson appeared in several movies despite the fact that Hermoine Granger became her most well-known role. She starred in Ballet Shoes, a movie adaptation of Noel Streatfield's children's book, in 2007. Watson was also cast in My Week with Marilyn, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring, This Is The End, and Noah after the conclusion of Harry Potter. She played the character of Belle in the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast in 2017. This movie went on to become the most successful live-action musical of all time. Then, in 2019 she played the character of Meg March in Greta Gerwig's adaptation of Little Women.


Activism

Emma Watson is a well-known feminist figure. As soon as she was named the UN Goodwill Ambassador, she spoke out in favor of women's rights and the battle against patriarchy. She wished for women to defend their rights and for everyone to be aware of gender equality. Watson has been working to promote females' education for a number of years even though she was just 24 years old. In addition to acting as an ambassador for Camfed International, a campaign to educate girls in rural Africa, she has campaigned to promote fair trade and organic apparel. She began devoting her time to enhancing the conditions of women and children across the globe to improve their lives.
